Dan J. Gordon

Producing

Back Porch Players

Dan is artistic director and founding member of The Back Porch Players, a non-profit 501 (c)(3) theatre company based in Houston, TX. Upon their graduation from Houston's performing arts high school in 2002, Dan and his actor friends had the idea of forming a theatre troupe; and since they did not have a venue, they decided to use Dan's back porch. Through the years of company growth with with the increase of permanent company members and community patrons, they have stayed commited to producing theatre that addresses the way young Americans make lives in historic moments and socially challenging circumstances: the Second World War, the labor union movement, the drug culture, and the Vietnam protest*.

Due to the community support and popularity of the back porch shows, The Players are dedicated to opening most of their shows on the back porch to enhance community accessibility at a lower ticket price. After the first weekend on the back porch, the production moves into a professional venue for the remainder of the run. Lately, The Players have performed in some of Houston's most established theatres venues including Stages Repertory, Barnevelder, Theatre LaB and BienVenue. Now, as the core members graduate college, they will continue with the company, anticipating collaboration with other young theatre companies, and now exploring possibilities internationally.

The company is always looking for new actors, directors and playwrights. Check them out online at: www.thebackporchplayers.org.

The Fest

This all-day extravaganza averages 10-15 performances and the musical genres range from jazz, hip-hop, rock and roll, acoustic to experimental fusion.

Dan is the producer of the festival with his cohorts Daniel Cohen, Ben Felleman and Adam Little. Three installations of The Fest have been produced since since 2002, "The Fest", "The Fest II" and "The Fest III."
